A tragic rollover accident on Highway 14 in California City has resulted in the death of at least one individual. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported the incident occurred around 12:37 p.m. on Wednesday in the northbound lanes just north of Phillips Road.
Witnesses stated the victim’s vehicle was being tailgated and reportedly forced off the highway by two other drivers before it overturned and landed on its side. The circumstances surrounding these allegations remain unconfirmed, and the CHP is continuing its investigation.
As a result of the crash, at least two northbound lanes of Highway 14 were closed for over two hours. The northbound lanes remained fully closed at Phillips Road as of 1:17 p.m., creating traffic delays in the area.
The identity of the deceased individual will be disclosed once next of kin have been notified, pending confirmation from the Kern County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities are urging drivers to come forward with any additional information or dashcam footage that may aid in resolving the incident and determining the exact cause of the crash.
