The governor of Afghanistan’s Spin Boldak district in Kandahar province confirmed on Saturday that four civilians had been killed. Local authorities reported that the incident began late at night and continued into the early hours of the morning, forcing families to flee their homes for safety.
Residents described hours of loud explosions, with mortars and heavy weapons echoing through mountainous villages near the border. Emergency services were deployed after daybreak to recover the injured and assess damage to homes and infrastructure. Several houses reportedly suffered structural damage, though full assessments were still underway at the time of reporting.
The Pakistani military stated that the firing originated from the Afghan side of the border. Officials said troops responded to what they described as “unprovoked shelling.” No official figures have been released regarding military casualties from either side.
The border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan has long been a flashpoint due to its rugged terrain, shifting control zones, and the presence of militant networks.
