Kazakhstan is set to become the newest member of the Abraham Accords, marking a major step in expanding diplomatic relations between Israel and Muslim-majority nations. The United States is expected to make a formal announcement late Thursday, according to senior White House adviser Steven Witkoff.
Witkoff told reporters that “a new country will be entering the Abraham Accords tonight,” confirming growing speculation about Kazakhstan’s participation. The decision follows several months of quiet diplomatic engagement involving Washington, Jerusalem, and Astana.
Kazakhstan, a predominantly Muslim and resource-rich nation in Central Asia, has long pursued a balanced foreign policy – maintaining friendly relations with both Western nations and regional powers. Joining the accords is expected to boost Kazakhstan’s international standing and strengthen its economic, technological, and security ties with Israel.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump, who launched the Abraham Accords in 2020, welcomed the development. “Many more nations are lining up to join,” Trump said in a statement, highlighting the continued momentum of the peace framework under multiple administrations.
The Abraham Accords, first signed in 2020, began as a U.S.-brokered initiative between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain. Morocco and Sudan later joined the framework, which has since evolved into a broader platform for cooperation across trade, defense, and innovation.
Diplomatic analysts view Kazakhstan’s inclusion as a significant expansion of the accords’ geographic and strategic scope. Beyond the Middle East, the move could strengthen economic corridors between Central Asia and Israel, fostering collaboration in sectors like energy, water technology, and digital innovation.
“This is more than a symbolic act-it’s a strategic partnership that bridges regions,” said one international affairs expert. “Kazakhstan’s participation reflects the growing recognition that regional peace can also drive economic and technological growth.”
The official U.S. announcement is expected to outline areas of cooperation, including energy development and cultural exchange programs, aimed at deepening ties between the nations.
With Kazakhstan’s entry, the Abraham Accords continue to evolve as one of the most influential diplomatic achievements of the past decade. The move underscores a shared commitment to stability, opportunity, and long-term peace between Israel and the broader Muslim world.
