Two Dead, Two Airlifted After Afternoon Shooting in Mount Airy, North Carolina

A shooting in a rural area of Mount Airy on Thursday afternoon resulted in two fatalities and left two additional people seriously injured, prompting an active investigation by state and county authorities.

According to officials, the gunfire occurred shortly after 2 p.m. along Welcome Baptist Church Road in Surry County, an area located near the North Carolina–Virginia state line. Emergency responders from the Surry County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene within minutes after receiving reports of multiple victims.

Law enforcement confirmed that four individuals had been shot. Two were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining two victims were transported by medical helicopter to a regional hospital for advanced treatment.
