A section of the Hongqi Bridge in Yiyang City, Hunan Province, unexpectedly collapsed on Tuesday, November 11, only months after it was inaugurated for traffic. Videos circulating online show a dramatic moment as one of the bridge’s arches fractured and plunged into the river below.
According to early reports, the collapse happened at the second arch of the multi-arch structure. Fortunately, local authorities confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported.
The Hongqi Bridge, a major infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity in the region, had opened earlier this year. Its sudden failure has raised concerns about construction standards and long-term safety measures.
Officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the collapse. Meanwhile, traffic in the surrounding area has been rerouted, and emergency response teams remain on-site to assess damage.
The incident has drawn widespread attention online, with footage of the collapse shared extensively across social media platforms, sparking discussions on infrastructure safety in rapidly developing areas.
Authorities have assured the public that they will release findings from the investigation once available, emphasizing that safety remains their top priority.
