Suspect Arrested After Deadly Shooting Shakes Kentucky State University Campus

Authorities in Frankfort have confirmed the arrest of a 48-year-old man in connection with a shooting that disrupted the campus of Kentucky State University on Tuesday afternoon. The suspect, identified as Jacob Lee Bard, is now facing multiple serious criminal charges following the violent incident.

According to officials from the Frankfort Police Department, officers were dispatched to the campus of Kentucky State University after receiving urgent reports of an armed individual. Law enforcement described the situation as an “active aggressor” emergency, prompting a rapid multi-agency response and an immediate shelter-in-place order for students and staff.

Jacob Lee Bard was located and taken into custody without further incident. Online detention records indicate he has been formally charged with two counts of murder and one count of first-degree assault. Authorities have not yet released detailed information regarding the condition or identities of the victims.

Public radio station also reported that the shelter alert issued by the university was lifted later in the day once the suspect was secured and campus safety was restored.

In response to the tragedy, Kentucky State University announced the cancellation of all classes for Wednesday to allow time for investigation, counseling, and campus security reviews. University leaders expressed concern for those affected and emphasized available mental health resources for students and staff.

The investigation remains active, and police have indicated that additional information will be released as it becomes available.
