A demonstration flight at the Dubai Air Show ended in tragedy on November 21, 2025, when an Indian Air Force Tejas fighter jet crashed during a scheduled aerial routine, killing the pilot on board.
The aircraft, part of India’s official participation in the prestigious international aviation exhibition, went down moments after beginning its display. Emergency teams stationed at the venue rushed to the crash site and attempted immediate medical intervention.
Indian Air Force officials later confirmed the death of Squadron Leader Namansh Syal, the pilot operating the aircraft. Known among colleagues for his professionalism and flying expertise, Syal had been preparing for the showcase event and was seen interacting with fellow officers shortly before takeoff. Despite rapid response measures, he succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash.
The jet involved was the Tejas, India’s indigenously developed, single-engine multirole fighter. Designed for high-maneuverability combat roles, Tejas has been showcased at several international events as a symbol of India’s growing aerospace capability. Its appearance at the Dubai Air Show was intended to highlight Indian aviation technology to a global audience.
Following the incident, air show organizers suspended further demonstrations to allow authorities to secure the area and assess the wreckage. Representatives of both the Indian Air Force and UAE aviation authorities confirmed that a joint investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the crash.
As of now, the accident marks the first major fatal crash involving a Tejas fighter jet. The IAF has stated that all necessary protocols have been initiated and further updates will be provided once preliminary findings from the investigation are available.
The Dubai Air Show, held every two years, regularly features advanced military and civil aircraft from around the world. This year’s event drew large international participation, making the incident a somber moment for attendees and organizers alike.
