Former President Donald Trump publicly addressed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Sunday, saying the congresswoman has “lost her way” amid her recent criticisms of his policies. The remarks were made outside a New York courthouse, where Trump is attending a defamation trial.
When asked by a reporter about Greene’s comments, Trump stated, “I think she’s lost her way. She should be supporting President Trump, not criticizing him. And she’s not been friendly, to put it mildly. But we’ll see what happens.”
Greene, a longtime Trump ally, had recently voiced strong opposition to several of his positions. She criticized his support for sending U.S. troops to Haiti and expressed concern over potential Red Flag laws, calling them unconstitutional. She also denounced Trump’s association with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a figure she has repeatedly opposed.
In response, Greene posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Sorry Mr. President, but you are the one who has lost your way.” She added that Trump’s current policy positions betray the promises he made to voters during his 2016 and 2020 campaigns, particularly regarding foreign interventions and gun rights.
The public exchange marks a notable split between Trump and one of his most vocal congressional supporters. Greene has been a steadfast defender throughout Trump’s presidency and his impeachment proceedings, making the disagreement significant. Despite the tension, Trump left the door open for future reconciliation, stating, “But we’ll see what happens.”
