Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman was hospitalized on Thursday after suffering a fall near his residence in Braddock, Pennsylvania, prompting immediate medical attention and further evaluation in the Washington, D.C. area. During his examination, doctors identified that the senator was also experiencing symptoms consistent with atrial fibrillation, an irregular heart rhythm that he has dealt with in the past.
According to aides, Fetterman felt lightheaded shortly after the fall, raising concerns that led to his transport to the hospital. Medical staff later confirmed he was undergoing an atrial fibrillation episode, a condition previously linked to his 2022 stroke, which resulted in the implantation of a pacemaker and defibrillator.
His medical team has kept him hospitalized for precautionary monitoring, ensuring that both the effects of the fall and the arrhythmia are properly managed. Officials say the senator is in stable condition, and early updates suggest he is expected to make a full recovery.
A spokesperson for Fetterman stated that he is “receiving appropriate care and remains stable,” emphasizing that the hospitalization is largely preventative. They reassured the public that he continues to respond well to treatment.
Fetterman’s health has drawn public attention since his 2022 stroke, which occurred during his Senate campaign. Doctors later connected the incident to underlying cardiomyopathy combined with atrial fibrillation, conditions he continues to manage under medical supervision.
As of Thursday evening, the senator remains under observation, and officials say additional updates will be provided as his recovery progresses.
