Search for Suspect Continues After Deadly Shooting at Brown University

Law enforcement agencies are continuing an intensive search for a suspect linked to a deadly shooting at Brown University that left two students dead and several others injured. As the investigation moves into its third day, questions are emerging about campus security systems and the coordination of emergency responses.

The shooting occurred Saturday afternoon inside an academic building on Brown’s Providence campus. According to authorities, gunfire erupted in a classroom setting, resulting in the deaths of two students and injuries to nine additional individuals. Emergency responders arrived within minutes, and the campus was placed under lockdown as officers began securing the area.

Ongoing Investigation and Surveillance Review

Investigators from Providence Police, with assistance from federal agencies, are reviewing surveillance footage collected from areas surrounding the campus. Officials have released several video clips showing a person of interest moving through nearby streets around the time of the incident. The individual’s movements, posture, and distinctive walking pattern are being closely examined as part of the identification process.

Authorities confirmed that shell casings recovered at the scene are being analyzed, while forensic teams continue to reconstruct the sequence of events. However, investigators acknowledged that limited camera coverage inside parts of the building has created challenges in tracking the suspect’s movements during the attack.

Security and Communication Concerns

The incident has sparked broader discussion about emergency alert systems and infrastructure readiness. University officials confirmed that the initial campus alert was sent minutes after the shooting, while local police notifications followed later. The campus siren system did not activate, prompting calls from students and parents for a review of emergency communication procedures.

Law enforcement leaders stated that while older facilities often lack modern surveillance integration, improvements to coordination between university security and city police are being evaluated.

Victim Updates and Community Response

Medical officials reported that several of the injured remain hospitalized, with conditions ranging from stable to critical. Others have since been released. The university has made counseling services available to students, faculty, and staff, and vigils have been held to honor the victims.

University administrators also urged the public to avoid speculation and online harassment, noting that misinformation can cause additional harm during an active investigation.

Appeal for Public Assistance

Authorities continue to ask anyone with information related to the incident or the individual seen in released footage to contact local law enforcement or submit tips anonymously. Officials emphasized that even small details could assist in bringing the case closer to resolution.

The investigation remains active, and further updates are expected as new information becomes available.
